Well this blog post is embarrassingly overdue! But here I am with some great (and also terrible) news. It’s March and yes, that means spring is a comin’, but it also means that’s it’s time for my annual charity fundraiser! And this year I’m raising money for Cancer Research UK!
I will tell you why… (WARNING: this is the terrible bit).
On 1 September 2013 I lost my dear friend Jane who died only 14 days before her 58th birthday. And again in May, my dear friend Marcus passed away at the age of 44! Cancer took both of these beautiful people’s lives leaving holes in many others’. The truth is, this disease affects most of us because we either know someone who is or has battled with it –or if not – we know someone who knows someone!
The dire facts
- More than 1 in 3 people in the UK will develop cancer at some point in their lives
- There are more than 200 types of cancer and each with different causes, symptoms and treatments
- Every 2 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer
So, for these reasons it was crystal clear to me that this year I’d be raising money to help fund research to battle this nefarious disease. Enter the Serpent Cocktail necklace. This handmade silver necklace is textured with hammering and oxidisation. And – as with last year – a small donation of £2 places your name in the draw to win!
The nitty gritty
The official fundraising kick-off is International Women’s Day, Saturday 8 March when I’ll be hosting a pop-up at Penny Fielding Gallery in Walthamstow Village from 13.30–18.00. This will be culminating with the winner’s draw on Mother’s Day, 30 of March at the Cancer Research UK charity shop at 24 Marylebone High Street.
You can pop into the Marylebone High street outlet from the 14th until the 30th if you want to have a look at it and try it on!
To give online, simply go to my JustGiving webpage, read my story then click to donate! Tres facile! And please leave a comment because it’s so encouraging to read, for me AND for everyone else!
